Brolly Brawl

ABOUT

Brolly Brawl is a retro-style 2d platformer inspired by Super Mario, Hollow Knight, and Shovel Knight. Play as an Aetherion as you try to make your way back home. Traverse the Forgotten Below by avoiding obstacles with the use of your trusty umbrella. Watch out for the hostile environment, and prepare for some difficulty.

INTRO

Rain lashes upon your window, it’s a special day at Aetheria. A vibrant tapestry of floating platforms in the clouds.  It’s the day of the comet festival, a special celestial occasion for the city. You look at the clock in the corner of your room, it’s time to head out.

You grab your new rainbow umbrella with pride. These umbrellas are no ordinary umbrellas. They are the primary mode of transportation throughout Artheria. More colourful designs are a sign of wealth and prestige. Today is a busy day. You will be hosting the opening of the festival. You open the door and step outside.

The wind howls past your ears, but not the kind that usually carries you through the sky. It yanks at your umbrella, pulling you in each and every direction. Your precious rainbow umbrella turns inside out as you feel a sudden drop.

Looking down there are no platforms to catch your fall. You drop and drop and drop for what feels like and age. Suddenly, there's the floor coming into view. You close your eyes and prepare for the worst when suddenly..

Whoosh

You feel a sudden tug as if being yanked by a parachute. You open your eyes to find your umbrella open once more. You glide down into a dark, wet forest below. You look up and see the city above, now far out of reach. Relief quickly turns to dread as you recall tales of this forest you are slowly gliding towards. 

The Forgotten Below. Rumour says the Aetherions lived here long ago. Little is known about what caused them to leave towards the sky. It is said to contain ruins of old, rusted structures, treacherous terrain, and some say swarming with mutated creatures. But these were just rumours and myths from bedtime stories. They can’t all be true. 

Suddenly you’re reminded of the festival. You need to find a way back, and fast, before it’s too late. 

You glide down through the trees and land on a platform…
